Introduction:
In-Store Wireless Access Point Installation Procedure for AvaLAN AP (DFS58EMVAP)
Instructions:
Mounting the DFS58EMVAP and other Avalan in-store wireless Access Points (AP)
- Mounting Options:
A. Remove the backing of the supplied adhesive pad and attach to the back of the quick
disconnect bracket (the angled lip will be facing away from you).
B. To wall mount use screws (not provided) for the 4 holes on the Enclosure. - The AP should be installed as close to the dispenser(s) as possible. It is preferred to mount the AP on a wall at least 6 feet above ground level or higher.
- mounting on walls is preferred. Various heat reflective or "cooling", tints, treatments, and/or coatings that windows can receive can also make them block or reflect wireless signals; so, when possible, it is better to mount on a wall next to or above a window rather than mounting on the window itself.
- note: Make sure to leave clearance of at least 3-4 inches around all sides of the unit
- note: It is strongly recommended to space the AP a minimum of 3 feet from other wireless equipment with a distance 8 feet or more recommended when space allows. This includes anything that may be broadcasting wi-fi signals, cellular communication, or other wireless signals
- Thoroughly clean the prospective mounting surface before removing the adhesive
backing and applying to the back of the quick disconnect bracket with the flange at the top
of the bracket jutting away from the mount surface. - Apply the quick disconnect bracket to the clean mounting area and hold in place for 20-30
seconds to confirm proper adhesion. - Connect networking cable from the port in the AP to the female RJ-45 connector on the POE Injector.
Note: cat5e or cat6 cable is recommended and up to 100 meters of cable length is supported - Insert the lip from the Quick Disconnect Bracket into the horizontal opening at the top side of the back of the AP enclosure
- Connect the provided 24 VDC power supply to a 120 VAC outlet and the barrel jack on the POE Injector. The POE Injector will have a light illuminated when power is applied.
- note: in the event that the included power supply is missing or otherwise non-functional; the AP and POE injector will function with any power supply ranging from 10 VDC to 30 VDC and an appropriately sized barrel jack.
- connect the male RJ-45 jack on the poe injector to a back office managed switch in managed mode per MNSP defined port for dispenser communications.
9a. Follow the DFS Egress rules for the AP: Trunk port, untagged traffic allowed to native vlan.
9b. The assigned port for the AP needs to be configured for DHCP on native vlan with DNS and default route assigned via DHCP.
